We escaped the winter freeze last week and went to sunny Florida! 80 degrees has never felt so good. Seriously. It was a big feat that we even made it there at all. We all go the stomach flu (minus John - lucky little duck) and I was so sick the entire day before our flight that I could barely get out of bed to barf. It was the sickest I've been in a long time - maybe ever. We changed our early am flight to a bit later in the day, I drank some Gatorade, John packed the bags and we were off! We landed in Florida and John & I looked at each other like we had just pulled off the world's biggest heist. We did it! We made it through the plane ride without throwing up! We got our rental car and drove another two hours down to the Keys. I'll never forget getting out of the car and carrying Louise down the sandy path to the house. It was 9pm, Griffin walked behind me in a t-shirt. It was dark and it was balmy. It felt other-worldly. My spirits were lifted immediately in that moment. What stomach bug?
We spent our days exploring the beach, eating on the porch, riding our bikes to the local cafe for breakfast, feeding giant tarpon at the marina. It was absolute heaven. Next year, we're tacking on a few more days. It was just too good.
