Sweet Assignment

Part of my day yesterday was spent "researching" gingerbread houses. I'm doing an invitation for a gingerbread house making party. How fun is that?! I've only made one gingerbread house all by myself. And I completely cheated. I didn't buy the set, although if you've done that, I'd consider you a cheater too - but props for trying at all. I made my house out of graham crackers! So I suppose - no, I'm actually quite certain - that that doesn't constitute a gingerbread house at all!

You can see I had my work cut out for me. I found these images while I was poking around the internet trying to find out what shapes of candy and swirls of icing might work. I love the cutout shapes on the first one, the tall shape and shingles of the second and the seemingly professional look of the third. Notice the chocolate graham cracker door - genius.

I love making gingerbread houses! You should definitely try and make one from scratch sometime…given all of the little people in your life you’d have plenty of helpers! I made some pretty cool ones last year for a catering company I worked for – I’ll try & find the pics. They were pretty good I must admit! And, if you don’t want to eat the finished product you can hot glue the parts together – much less frustrating!

Yeah! That’s such a fun activity. Once my sisters and I made a really cool one with our babysitter. We had little elf chocolates and everything. We used fluff to hold it together.

and love the idea of using glue, alicia! great cheat tip:) I’m all about enjoying the candy during the decorating anyway. In my one house experience, that is.
